Crude body modification and porn culture don’t mix well January 27, 2011

German erotic actor Carolin Berger recently died after her sixth breast enlargement surgery. Jill over at I Blame the Patriarchy labels the incident death by femininity and exposes the disgusting media coverage involved. The Left Hand of Feminism explores Berger’s possible motivations in the context of our patriarchal society. This aspect of body modification worries me. Are we headed for a period of dangerous cosmetic operations compelled by the objectification imperative? That’s not morphological freedom. Transhumanists have a responsibility to carefully consider the interactions between desired technologies and existing structures of domination. For best results, I recommend smashing dude supremacy with alacrity.
