This evening I attempted to attend a book launch for Stop Signs, a critique of car culture by Bianca Mugyenyi and Yves Engler. As so often happens, the event failed to materialize. Regardless, the book looks like a solid example of critical engagement with a specific technology and its political implications. Treating technology as a monolithic whole obscures so much. The corporate interests behind the North American transportation infrastructure have created a system harmful to the common good but beneficial to business. We can do better.
